Day 0 · Day Zero — The baseline yap

The Baseline Yap

The nuance

Evidence, not performance

Before you learn anything, record the version of you that exists today. This is not a warm-up and not a performance — it is evidence. You will re-record this exact task on Day 7 and again on Day 21 with the same prompt, the same duration and the same conditions.

Do not rehearse this. A rehearsed baseline is worthless — you will spend twenty-one days improving against a version of yourself that never existed.

The mechanic

  1. 1Set a timer for three minutes where you can see it. Camera or voice memo, eye level if video.
  2. 2Prompt: “Tell me what you did yesterday, and why any of it mattered.” Do not prepare. Do not write anything down.
  3. 3One take. No restarts, no edits, no deleting. If it is bad, that is the point — this is the low-water mark.
  4. 4Score it on the five axes before you listen back. Then listen once and leave it alone.

The drill clock — live timers

The baseline

3:00

Three minutes, one take, no plan. Timer visible.

Score

2:00

Score all five axes before you replay it.

Prompt bank

  • Tell me what you did yesterday, and why any of it mattered.

The trap

Rehearsing. A polished baseline destroys the only comparison you get.

Yap log

The YAP Scale · score before you replay

Five axes, one to five. Honest numbers beat flattering ones.

0 / 25

Hook

Did the first three seconds make staying easier than scrolling?

Texture

Concrete objects, numbers and names — or categories and filler?

Pace

Did speed vary on purpose? Were the pauses clean and deliberate?

Presence

Energy floor, eyeline and commitment held all the way through?

Landing

Did it end on a button, or fizzle out mid-thought?

Reflection

One thing I noticed about how I speak when nobody is watching
