Day 14 · Week 2 — Build the instrument

Week Two Review

The nuance

Devices, not vibes

The rant ladder, the story spine, the callback, the admission, the register shift, the snap-back: six devices you can now reach for on purpose rather than hoping inspiration shows up.

This week's test is whether you can name the device in someone else's yap, and in your own, within ten seconds of hearing it. Recognition is what makes a tool available under pressure.

The mechanic

  1. 1Play your six recordings from Days 8–13 in a row, one minute of each.
  2. 2Label the device for every minute. A minute with no device is filler.
  3. 3Score the week's best take on the YAP Scale. Compare against Day 7.
  4. 4Choose the one device you are weakest at. Week Three hides it inside every task.

Prompt bank

  • No new topic today. This is an audit, not a performance.

The trap

Scoring the performance you remember rather than the recording on your phone. Memory is generous. The file is not.

Hook

Did the first three seconds make staying easier than scrolling?

Texture

Concrete objects, numbers and names — or categories and filler?

Pace

Did speed vary on purpose? Were the pauses clean and deliberate?

Presence

Energy floor, eyeline and commitment held all the way through?

Landing

Did it end on a button, or fizzle out mid-thought?

Reflection
