The 10% admission
Confidence without exposure reads as performance. The audience does not need your wound — they need one true, small, specific, mildly embarrassing admission that costs you something. Ten percent.
A confession asks for comfort. An admission gives the room something real to sit next to — and it makes every confident claim around it believable.
The mechanic
- 1Choose something small but real. Not trauma — a genuine minor failure or unflattering thought.
- 2Make it specific. “I was jealous” is a category. “I checked his follower count four times that night” is an admission.
- 3Deliver it flat. No sigh, no self-pity. State it and move on within two seconds.
- 4Place it before your main point. It buys permission for everything that follows.
